Description

While tilt-top tables were a popular Colonial and Federal form, at this time, it was clearly less popular, as few Neoclassical examples are found. This table has a highly figured solid mahogany top which is chamfered underneath, giving a more streamlined appearance, the battens are also developed, indicating a piece whose craftsman left no detail unworked. The column is finely carved and reminiscent to one illustrated on a card table in our collection. The legs are carved and shaped with a double scroll and the feet are of a small, tight, restrained style…definitely a very cosmopolitan table.
